MUNCIE--Don E. Reber, 81, local Muncie business owner, passed away on Thursday at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital surrounded by love and family.

Don was born in Muncie, to Don H. and Georgia F. (Miller) Reber. He graduated Muncie Central High School in 1948 and studied business at Ball State University until he became more active in the family business. He married Virginia Roney, his college sweetheart, in 1950.

Don was owner of Reber Machine & Tool Company, Inc., on Liberty Street in Muncie, a family-owned business founded by his father in 1942. He was a past president of the local chapter of the National Tool & Machine Association and a lifetime member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers.

Don was an avid fan and supporter of both the Ball State Football and Men's Basketball Teams and a frequent patron of the establishments, Atlanta Music Hall in Hamilton County and Ivanhoe's Restaurant in Upland. He loved his family, work, bulldozer and farm equipment.

Don leaves a legacy of compassion and generosity that touched many lives, but the importance of family defined him. Don is survived by his wife, Virginia; sons, Craig Reber (wife-Susan) of Allentown, PA, Neil Reber and Terry Reber, both of Muncie; daughter, Lisa Rhoads (husband-Dusty) of Muncie; younger brothers, Dave Reber (wife-Mary) of Muncie and Jack Reber (wife-Janelle) of Eaton; nine grandchildren; three nieces and four nephews; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in Grace Baptist Church, 4601 W. River Road in Muncie, with Pastor James Proctor officiating. Entombment will be at Elm Ridge Mausoleum. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, 415 E. Washington St. in Muncie, and from 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at Grace Baptist Church.
