George Miller History 2 from Pete Townsend

Craig,
On a sort of parallel track...

My GG Grandfather George Townsend had three kids in the Chicago area during the 1880's. During the late 1890's George's wife began listing herself in the Chicago city directory as the widow of George Townsend and later remarried in 1899. I later found found a 1913 obituary for George's father indicating that George was not dead, but alive and well and living in Omaha, Nebraska with his new wife. In 1916 George's youngest daughter died and her death certificate states her father was not in fact George, but was George's brother Ralph H Townsend (the guy who dropped dead from a heart attack in the coffee shop in Blair, Nebraska in 1925). The story of the stranger who dropped dead in the coffee shop made it into a couple local Blair, Nebraska newspaper articles. In addition to some basic biographical/obituary information one of the articles indicated that "more wives than were expected showed up to claim the body" and when on to describe how the multiple wives dilemma was resolved. Is was Ralph's legitimate wife Clara Mabel Harding that shortly thereafter remarried to George E Miller.

Thanks for your reply. I think I'll see if I can find a death record for Clara Mabel Miller (nee Harding) in California. I'll send an update if I find out anything new. Any guesses about how Clara and George E Miller may have met up sometime between 1925 and 1927? Maybe they knew each from their younger days? Clara was living in Colon, Michigan when husband Ralph Townsend died in February 1925. She was born in Indiana. She lived in Indianapolis in 1900, but I think she may have lived in Hancock County, Indiana when she was younger. The 1929 California death certificate for her daughter Ethel states that she lived in Martinez for two years prior to her death at the age of 15. That would seem to place her necessarily her mother Clara and most likely George also as a family in Martinez in 1927.

A typo correction: Clara mother's last name is "Teal". I misspelled it as "Deal" in my 1st message.
